On September 15th, the Abante Team left USA soil bound for the island of Puerto Rico. Borinquen, as the locals call it, will be home to the colleagues for the next three months of their nine-month journey.
For most people, leaving home may not seem so difficult, however, when one is not accustomed to travel, the idea of leaving the familiar could be quite stressful. The colleagues expressed that they were feeling a little anxious and somewhat nervous about heading to a land where the language, the food and the people are quite different.
The three and a half hour flight to the island helped ease the nerves and give perspective. Once the colleagues arrived, friendly locals, warm weather, and a hearty Puerto Rican homemade meal welcomed them. New beginnings are always challenging, but for this team, the sounds of the waves crashing against the rocks, along with the view from the terrace of the Abante House in Dorado, Puerto Rico, was sufficient to quiet their souls as they ready themselves for the unknown.
