RINCÓN, Puerto Rico

On Sunday, October 11, the team partnered with the Center Church PR congregation for a day of service in Rincon, PR. Pastor Efren Peña had received a vision to plant a church in Rincon and asked the Abante team to help spread the love of Christ along with information about the new church plant that will start in January.

The context for the event was a local surfing festival. Many locals came to sell goods while tourists and visitors came to participate in the surfing competitions and enjoy some of the culture on a hot day. The team enjoyed giving away free bottled-water, sharing information about CCPR’s new church plant, and befriending the locals.

On the way home the team pulled to the side of the road when they noticed a young lady changing a tire. The team immediately went into action, Colleagues Brian and Manuel changed the tire while the rest of the colleagues kept the young lady, Yari, company.

While sitting with Yari, the team learned that she was a single mother who drives an hour and a half daily for work at a hospital in another town. She began to cry as she told the team how she had been praying for God to send her help because she had never changed a tire before. She was isolated, without tools and without a phone to call for help.

The more the team listened to Yari’s story, the clearer it became that this was not a random encounter, but this was God’s answer to her prayer. The team prayed for Yari, took up an offering to buy a new tire, and followed her on the road until she was close to her home.
