HATO REY, San Juan
Abante International in partnership with Iniciativa Comunitaria, participated in a press conference in the busy financial district of San Juan, Puerto Rico. The conference was held to announce the launch of Abriga un Alma en la Navidad–a campaign to provide blankets for the homeless in the metro area during the winter season.
Despite of being located in the tropical weather of the Caribbean, the winter still turns very cold for the locals and many homeless suffer injury and even death because of hypothermia.
Abante International participated by staffing the local Walmarts on the island to take in donations from the public. Additionally, Abante Colleagues, Tori Cox and Julian Schlottmann were both featured artists at the conference because of their artistic expression on a blanket. Dr Vargas Vidot, the founder of Iniciativa Comunitaria, expressed that “the blanket represented a call to the nation of Puerto Rico to wake up and rediscover the values that once defined us as a culture.”
Through Abante’s artists and labor over the next weeks, many homeless in the island will experience a tangible expression of Christ’s love this winter season.[fbalbum url=https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.713081022043196.1073741941.130817906936180]
