Year Number Seven: Our Little Family is Coming Together Nicely!
Whenever you start something, whether it is a new career, a new school, or a new relationship, among other things, there is a certain amount of anxiety that comes with it. For students coming in, there is the stress of leaving what is familiar to engage a whole new group of people becoming vulnerable with them and welcoming them as new family members for the next nine months. Even though there is a certain amount of fear about the unknowns ahead, they also come with expectancy, and excitement for the journey ahead.
Someone once said that God was a master strategist. No doubt about that! When the team was finally together, all wearing their new uniforms, worshiping together, and getting to know each other during the welcoming luncheon, it was easy to see how God brought these individuals together, all from different states, denominations, and even nationalities. These individuals came as seasoned staff members, rookie staff members, students right out of High School, transient students, graduate students, family members, and host home members. In a matter of hours, everyone became a family of colleagues and supporters for this year’s journey. Perhaps cautious at first, however, flexible enough to engage and become a unit; one body of servant-leaders ready for the task ahead.
We have a plan. We have a calendar full of events, ministry and community work opportunities, as well as several cultures to engage, languages to tackle, and a deeper walk with Christ as we go. One thing is certain, this little family has what it takes to face whatever challenges await.
You don’t choose your family. They are God’s gift to you, as you are to them.Desmond Tutu
