On Friday, August 22, the Abante Team left en route to Dillard, GA for a weekend retreat at the beautiful Swilley Cabin in Mountain City. The landscape was not only gorgeous, but it was conducive for bonding, learning, and spending time with the creator.
Friday evening, upon arrival, the team cooked their first meal, and then gathered together for a leadership training session, followed by Tribute; a time for worship and prayer. The presence of God was felt during Tribute and the team heard words of encouragement and guidance for their journey. Friday evening definitely set the tone for the rest of the weekend.
On Saturday, the team was treated to a southern Georgia breakfast at the Dillard House, followed by a visit to a petting zoo located in the property. After feeding the animals and enjoying God’s creatures, the team headed to Tallulah Falls, for a gruesome hiking adventure. The team went down to the falls, rejoicing, and returned like wounded soldiers! Needless to say, the colleagues will remember the hike to Tallulah Falls for a long time.
On Sunday, the team visited the Persimmon Church of God in Rabun County. Pastor Teddy King and his beautiful congregation welcomed the colleagues with open arms, giving them an opportunity to lead in worship, testimonies, and to speak the word. It was a morning of insight into what the true meaning of Kingdom is for every believer. God was glorified this weekend in the lives of each colleague, and those they came in contact with.
The colleagues’ first ministry weekend was further enriched by the company of Stephen King—an Abante International colleague from the 2012-13 cycle. His mentorship and connection with this year’s team was invaluable.
