Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as though you were working for the Lord and not for people.Colossians 3:23
The Vessels of Mercy clinic (VOM) was founded after the tragic death of Gabriel, the 12-year-old son of a local pastor and his wife, Davvy and Shedna Woods. Gabriel was involved in a car accident and was unable to receive medical attention in time. Through this heartbreaking experience, God has brought astonishing restoration that gave birth to VOM to help others. Davvy and Shedna continue to pastor and now serve at the clinic.
VOM reaches approximately 30,000 people here on the island of Roatan, Honduras where there is very poor healthcare. Throughout the year, doctors, nurses and medical groups visit the clinic to provide affordable medical care as well as sharing the Word of God. This clinic is where God meets the physical and spiritual needs of so many that would otherwise go unnoticed.
The team was fortunate enough to have the opportunity to serve such a special group of people. Last week, VOM received donations in a shipping container the size of an 18-wheeler. Talk about a blessing! This container was full of much needed medical equipment, desks, file cabinets, and a bountiful amount of supplies for a local school as well.
The challenge for Shedna and the other employees arose when it was time to unload it. As we already know, God shifted our trip from Puerto Rico to Roatan for a specific purpose and this was another confirmation of that. The team arrived just in time to help unload and deliver the supplies. That day was extremely hot and humid, and most of us ended up with sun burn as evidence of hard labor.
Brian Schlottmann, the founder of Abante, reminded us that our work is worship unto God. Throughout the day, you could sense a distinct work ethic among everyone. Although our bodies were tired, our spirit desired to continue serving. By the time we finished, the sun had gone down and Shedna’s smile served as our ray of sunshine as we closed the day in prayer, thanking God for the ability to serve and worship Him. Days like these remind us that God causes everything to work together for good.
